In Pennsylvania, House Bill 917 has been signed by the Governor and establishes the Uniform Family Law Arbitration Act (UFLAA). The Act provides families with an alternative to litigation in Court which is financially economical, more efficient, and less stressful for the parties.
The UFLAA sets the qualifications as to who may arbitrate family law cases. It also defines family law disputes which may be arbitrated, which include custody and support cases. Clients are permitted to have their attorneys represent them during the process, written discovery may be exchanged as well as the scheduling of depositions. Arbitration awards will be fully enforceable by the Court with all remedies available to either party.
